EOTD ~ Rapunzel is Dead

This was a look that ended up being too dark for me at first but I remember Mandy sticking Fyrinnae's Rapunzel Had Extensions on top another shade for a neato gold look and tried it and VOILA!

I used:
TFSI Lemon Drop
Fyrinnae PE just on lid
Lid/lower lashline: Persephone's Dead Ringer (last years Halloween collection)
Centre lid: Fyrinnae's Rapunzel Had Extensions
Crease: Fyrinnae's Te Amo
Inner lower lashline: Meow's Prophecy
Liner: Physician's Formula brown eyes gel liner
Lashes are demi wispies from Target.  Came in a 4 pack.

Annnnnd here's a picture from the Rush concert I went to on Wednesday

What does it have to do with anything?  IT DOESN'T! That's how I roll.

I think this was my favourite concert so far and I've seen Prince, Britney, Manson, and a schwackload of others my sleepy brain can't think of.  I liked all the background stuff and screens.  It was like a steampunk circus.  So much fun to watch!  The last song especially.  I think it was called The Garden.  The little screens had vines with flowers and little bugs.  I was in the nosebleeds but the screens were so crisp and clear I was able to see everything even though I forgot my glasses.  The Prince screens weren't even that good.

Oh and there was this mini-movie going on in between that had Jay Baruchel looking for the Watchmaker.  I loooooove Jay Baruchel.  He's just so cute to look at.  AND CANADIAN!  Like Rush!  SO MUCH CANADIA.  :D

I have nuthin' more to say.

Pancakes.

I lied.

CURLS!

I've recently been wishing my hair was Rapunzel long because I've been obsessed with curls!  I originally had 2 curler sets, a crimper, 2 different sized curling irons and a 3 prong curler that I used to use all the time but they've all gone to forgotten-land.

Browsing ebay for Korean makeup I saw a shop sold Curlformers.  Well, Curlformer knock offs, but I completely forgot these things existed!

Searching some more I found they also go by the name Magic Leverag, and many posts just say there is no name, just factory direct.  Either way they all do the same task.  GIVE YOU AWESOME CURLING ACTION!

Curlformers/Magic Leverag resemble telephone cords.  They are tight hollow spirals you shove a hook inside (usually comes with one), grab a bit of hair you twist a bit to get a good hook, then squeeze open the end and pull it through.  It takes a bit of practice.  The first time I tried these I was having to re-do the same spot over and over and thought for sure I'd have a bald spot with how many times my hair got knotted through the tube.  It wasn't until the end when I realized it works best if you squeeze that top part open so it glides on through.  The second time around went much faster and I only had to re-do 1 part once.

Youtube has videos on how to use them incase you need the visual, and my descriptions are crap :)

Ebay is so confusing.  There are 3 different types and 2 lengths to consider.  I bought a set of 24 Extra Long & Wide (orange and light pink).  Long & Wide or Short & Wide would have worked also but I don't plan on cutting my hair any time soon, so these will be good for a long time.
There are also Narrow ones that are a light blue and green set.  They come in Long and Short also.
And there are Long & Extra wide which are the yellow/hot pink set.  Just the 1 length.  I really want that set!  The wider the set the bigger the curl.
I even saw a set that looked wider than the yellow/hot pink set that was blue and pink.  I believe they said it was 2 inch curls.  They'd be awesome for wavy hair.

Sallys sells the name branded Curlformers but they were crazy expensive.  6 each was $14 and hook was separate.  I bought my set of 24 with a hook for $16 and free shipping on ebay.

The huge pack with 2 hooks and storage bag are $70 for 40.  No thank you.

Ebay also likes to play tricks.  I bought my set for $16/free ship (price is down a bit now) but the same place has a listing for almost $10 but $6.50 shipping, so it works out to about the same price, you just think you're paying less at first.

Just look around by searching for curlformers or magic leverag and sort by price + shipping lowest and scroll until something jumps out at you and you'll be good.  Just pay attention to length.  A bunch of listings show little curlformers but the model has crazy long hair.  Not gonna work.

To get my curls so they'd be ready for dinner, I showered first thing in the morning, towel dried, put in some leave-in conditioner, popped them in and left them for about 7 hours.  Before pulling them out I used my blow dryer on them to heat them a bit just incase they weren't totally dry yet.  After pulling them out I carefully separated them in half and added a ton of hairspray.  My hair doesn't hold curls very well, so I used a extra strength one that made them kinda crunchy.  S'ALL GOOD.

That's them right before removal.  You can see my hair doesn't come close to filling them.

AND ZE END!

Makeup was the Sleek Ultra Mattes bright palette.

Curlformers are also kind of multi-purpose!  Wisely-Chosen/Melanie uses them to dye individual parts of her hair.

You've probably seen her before.  Her rainbow hair picture gets stolen without permission and floats around Tumblr all.the.time.  Now you know who owns that head!  THIS PRETTEH LADEH!

LOOK AT THE AWESOME

I love her Flickr stream.  So much sparkly rainbowy happiness.

EOTD ~ Devoted to Mayhem

I had time to sit down an do some makeup today!  Yay!

I got to use my new Kat Von D Shade Shifter eyeshadow in Devotion.  I took a bunch of pictures to do a swatch post but got lazy.  But you can see it in this post instead!

IN ACTION!

Kinda.

I'm pretty craptacular at putting together a colour combo so I thought of other shifty-like colours and went with Meow's Pandora's Box collection and End of Days.

I used:
TFSI Lemon Drop
Lid: Devotion
Crease: Mayhem
Browbone, inner liner: Prophecy
Lower liner: Oblivion
Liner: UD 24/4 Liquid Perversion

Devotion is super similar to Aromaleigh's discontinued Oberon but Devotion is more of a peachy base and Oberon is more shimmery.  They're both pretty so I don't know which I'd prefer.  Devotion is less fussy I guess, you probably won't get any flyaway shadow.  But if you want more glam, use Oberon.  If you were lucky enough to snag one!
I used Oberon in a super old look here.  I'll have to use it more often! I forgot how amazing it looked!

When Indie is Questionable

Lately it seems there is always something about indie that will turn someone away.  Sometimes an owner just completely disappears, sometimes they go on ranty rampages and end up scaring off potential and current customers.  Some new companies don't do the proper research and can end up hurting someone.  I'm not saying don't buy indie.  You just might want to be wary.  Like seeing obvious neons being sold by a kid who doesn't know what she's doing...  Neons aren't FDA approved to be worn near the eyes, google can give you more info but I'm kind of getting off topic!

Today my issue is: fingerprints.

Gloves should be worn when creating product that goes onto someones's face or eyes.  It's the best way to prevent infections like the lovely pink eye.

Which is why it's really upsetting to see fingerprints on the INSIDE of eyeshadow jars when the product hasn't even been opened yet.

  Yup, fingerprints.

Wiki says: Impressions of fingerprints may be left behind on a surface by the natural secretions of sweat from the eccrine glands that are present in friction ridge skin

MMMMM SWEAT! I love other people's sweat on my eyes!  Not to mention what else is floating around on those dirty fingers.

These could have happened when the shop owners were setting the jars up for filling, or it could have come from the supplier dirty.

At the end of the day, my makeup has FRIGGIN FINGERPRINTS IN IT!  It's disgusting.  It could make me sick.  I've had pink eye twice before.  It's not fun.  You feel like there is something in there and it goops up and goes really red and you look like a damn zombie.  You then have to stay home from work because it's infectious.  That's right, time off work.  Because someone decided to be lazy and skip the gloves.

So please inspect your jars before using your makeup and contact the shops you find prints in.

Here are today's culprits and there could have been more.  Cold Feet was a fluke, I found a mesh bag of shadow and since I have prints on my mind I decided to take a look and voila.  Dirty also.  Not cool.  I will be looking through my other eyeshadows and updating if necessary.  Click the pics for better detail.

Geek Chic Cosmetics N7.  That one was harder to capture because of the jar shape, but it's definitely there.

So check those jars!  Keep your eyeballs safe! :)
